Handy Gluten-Free Travel Products

Traveling while following a gluten-free diet is no simple feat. It’s common to find yourself in a “crummy” situation with no backup plan, and being in a new or unfamiliar place only adds to the struggle. Fortunately, however, there are many products out there (ranging from food to mobile apps) to make traveling easier for us gluten-free folk.

Whether your adventures take you to different cities, countries, or continents, be sure to check out our favorite handy gluten-free travel products below. You’ll never find yourself stuck again!

1. Toaster Bags

Hotel continental breakfasts are a given during vacation. No matter how prepared you are by bringing your own gluten-free bread or bagels, a contaminated toaster can still be a roadblock. Outsmart this issue by bringing ekSel Toaster Bags with you. You can slide your gluten free goodies into the bags and toast them in any toaster. With the bag acting as a barrier to the contaminated toaster, you’ll know that your breakfast is safe.

2. Translation Cards

If you’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to another country, checking out Gluten Free Passport’s Translation Cards is a must (we’re hosting a giveaway here). Because language barriers can be daunting, these cards make communicating your strict gluten-free diet foolproof. They come in dozens of languages and explain what celiac is, what contains gluten, and what cross contamination means.

3. Find Me Gluten Free

One of the hardest parts about traveling gluten free is having to eat at restaurants frequently. When traveling, the restaurants in the area may be unfamiliar to you. Take the guesswork out of dining out by downloading our app, Find Me Gluten Free. You can use this resource to locate gluten-free friendly restaurants near you as well as read reviews from fellow gluten-free and celiac diners.

4. Coolers

Road tripping? Staying in a hotel room without a fridge? Bring a cooler! Traveling is exhausting, so it’s important to stay fueled. Packing a soft cooler allows you to bring a wider variety of healthy gluten free foods, such as veggies, meats, cheeses, and yogurt. These snacks will keep you satisfied and energized throughout your trip.

5. Snacks!

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s easy to underestimate how many snacks you’ll need to bring for your adventure. There may be times that no safe food is readily available. To avoid a major hunger meltdown, make sure your car or suitcase is well-stocked. Our favorite travel snacks include:

– Bars (LUNA Bars , RXBARs, NuGo Nutrition Bars). These bars are compact, spoil-proof, and will give you plenty of energy.

– Squeezable nut butter packets (Justin’s Nut Butters, YumButter). To avoid the mess that often comes with nut butter, try these squeezable packets for a substantial snack.

– Fresh produce. If you bring a cooler, fill it up with lots of fruits and veggies, such as blueberries, apples, carrots and celery.

Now that you have the rundown on the most helpful gluten free travel products, you’re ready for an easy-breezy vacation! Pack your bags (and cooler) because adventure awaits.
