Halloween is the ultimate holiday for kids. Fun costumes, spooky decorations, and unlimited candy… Unless you’re gluten free. Imagine having a huge pile of hard-earned treats in front of you and only being able to eat a fraction of it.
If you have a child who always seems to be in this predicament, try a clever trick to make them look forward to the candy aspect of Halloween. Turn it into a game! Every kid loves going to the arcade to trade tickets for prizes. If you simply apply the same concept to sorting Halloween candy, you’re guaranteed to have a very happy child.
Have lots of gluten free candy on hand. Then, after the trick-or-treating extravaganza, initiate a trade game with fun exchanges and rules… Ex: A gluten-containing Mini Nestle Crunch Bar for 3 Hershey’s Kisses, or a Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkin for two Reese’s Miniature Peanut Butter Cups, etc. This way, your child will have fun swapping sweets while raking in more goodies!
Starburst, Snickers, and Skittles, oh my! Be sure to check out this updated gluten free candy list from Verywell to help prep for the special day.
